چکیده
The rise and fall of the groundwater level can drive air flow in vadose zone. In turn, interact with water flow. When unconfined aquifer is covered by a low-permeability media, coupling more obvious. this study, conceptual model established for zone response to rapid fluctuations table. Water injection drainage experiments are conducted double-layered sand column thick layer (80.5 cm) coarse thin fine as cap. Different cap thickness (2 cm, 5 7.5 different (30 40 set experiments. Negative pressure (NP)/positive (PP) observed drainage/injection experiments, higher thicker layer. each experiment, NP or PP increases rapidly reach maximum early stage, gradually becomes zero late stage. Analytical solutions on three subdivided stages indicate permeability layer, well porosity media key controlling factors process also reveal formation mechanism This study has both theoretical significance engineering applications.

Airflow induced by pumping tests in unconfined aquifer with a low-permeability cap
[1] Most analytical and numerical models developed to analyze pumping test data focus on saturated flow below the water table. Traditionally the soil above the initial water table prior to pumping has been thought to have little influence on the test results and has usually been ignored. It is hypothesized that, if the unsaturated zone is capped by low-permeability soil, airflow in the unsatura...
متن کاملAlternative linearization of water table kinematic condition for unconfined aquifer pumping test modeling and its implications for specific yield estimates
An alternative linearization of the nonlinear kinematic condition at the water table used in unconfined aquifer flow theory is proposed. It simulates the downward propagation of the water table, during water extraction via a pumping well, as a diffuse process controlled by a dimensionless linearization parameter, bD. The limiting value of bD = 0 corresponds to the solution of Neuman (1972) wher...
متن کاملOptimizing remediation of an unconfined aquifer using a hybrid algorithm.
We present a novel hybrid algorithm, integrating a genetic algorithm (GA) and constrained differential dynamic programming (CDDP), to achieve remediation planning for an unconfined aquifer. The objective function includes both fixed and dynamic operation costs. GA determines the primary structure of the proposed algorithm, and a chromosome therein implemented by a series of binary digits repres...
متن کاملGroundwater flow to a horizontal or slanted well in an unconfined aquifer
[1] New semianalytical solutions for evaluation of the drawdown near horizontal and slanted wells with finite length screens in unconfined aquifers are presented. These fully three-dimensional solutions consider instantaneous drainage or delayed yield and aquifer anisotropy. As a basis, solution for the drawdown created by a point source in a uniform anisotropic unconfined aquifer is derived in...
متن کاملAn Assessment of Factors Affecting Reactive Transport of Biodegradable BTEX in an Unconfined Aquifer System, Tehran Oil Refinery, Iran
Risk-based assessment methods are commonly used at the contaminated sites by hydrocarbon pollutants. This paper presents the results of a two-dimensional finite volume model of reactive transport of biodegradable BTEX which have been developed for the saturated zone of an unconfined aquifer in the Pump station area of Tehran oil refinery, Iran. The model governing equations were numerically sol...
